School Incursions

Robot Science programs (school workshops, incursions and after-school) are project based and student centered. All the topics and student learning outcomes align to the ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) Digital Technology and Science curriculum.

We utilise the Lego Robot kits – Lego WeDo2.0 for Kindy to Year 3 and the Lego Mindstorm EV3 robot kits for Year 4 and up. These are hands-on technological solution that develops science practices in the classroom through a robot-based learning system. The standards-based projects and the solutions, engages and motivates students to solve real-world science problems by working with engineering, technology and coding. The LEGO Robotics Education program used, strengthens students’ understanding and develops competencies across key science topics including physical sciences, life sciences, earth and space sciences and engineering.

With all our programs, we provide all the technological resources needed such as the iPads and Robot kits.

With our school workshops, we offer 2 workshops that are ideally run in a series with introductory level projects and intermediate level projects. The continuum Workshops 1-2 allows kids to continually participate in our program with appropriately increasing complexity in the material. Ideally, kids would attend the first program, which is the introductory program before attending the subsequent workshop. However, this can be adjusted if necessary. Workshops are run as a half day program. There is the option to run 2 half day programs consecutively for 2 different classes/years. With our school incursions, we offer an ongoing weekly service for the term, whereby we provide our services within the school hours for an hour or for the duration of your typical class time. This is usually a 10 week program, which can be adjusted to 9 or 11 weeks as needed. Each week would include the introduction and discussion of a science or technology themed topic that would involve coding, creating and experimenting with of our robots. The cost is $22 per child and a minimum of 1 hour OR the equivalent of one class period.

With our after school programs, we run it by the term. It is similar to the school incursions. It is usually a 10 week program, which can be adjusted to 9 or 11 weeks as needed. Each week would include the introduction and discussion of a science or technology themed topic that would involve coding, creating and experimenting with of our robots. This cost $20 per child for 1 hour. All we would require is an allocated space with access to a smart board if possible. A minimum number of 10 kids is required to proceed.

Qualified Robot Science staff will come to your school, and fit into the school day. We have a qualified teacher with WWCC. We provide all the technological resources – robot kits, iPad and software. We allocate one robot kit and an iPad to a pair of students. This ratio of kids to the robot resources ensures that every child is hands-on and engaged, but still allows for teamwork and collaboration. We can also provide relevant and age appropriate worksheets.

During the program, the kids optimise their learning of Robotics with an underlying science and technology theme with every child coding, creating and experimenting with a minimum of 6 programs. As an indication of achievement, we provide every participant with a Robot Science Robot Programmer Certificate. Robot Science would also provide a student achievement chart that can be used for assessment. We also provide 10M public liability insurance with certificate of currency.

School Workshops (Intermittent)
