    LEGO® WeDo 2.0 Robotics

    This group would be discovering and exploring the world of STE[A]M through the creation and manipulation of Lego WeDo 2.0 Robots. Kids would learn about and utilize a variety of coding and technology skills as well as other key 21st century educational goals that include team/group collaboration, critical thinking, and hands-on skills. Kids will be given the opportunity to learn about the different components of a fully functioning robot.

    Each class has an underlying science theme that underpins the robot that we build. The kids would create, code and experiment while building structures like rescue helicopters, animals like frogs and gorillas, space rovers and much more!

    TERM 2 CLASSES RUN FOR 8 WEEKS (Mondays) from 6th May to 24th June

    This group would be given a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of robot design, program, and control of a functional robot. They will learn how to build the robot, then program them to complete various tasks using LEGO bricks, motors and sensors and compete with other groups in battles.

    Both introductory level and intermediate levels will be catered for.

    The venue is our Robot Science Hub at Bateau Bay

    Classes start runs for 8 weeks from the 2nd week of Term – Saturday the 11th of May to the 29th of June.

    Please note that we are a NSW Creative Kids Voucher Provider. So you may use your $100 voucher towards our classes. To use it, proceed with your order and opt to pay by Direct Bank Transfer. Then kindly do the following:

    1. Pay the difference to the bank account provided.

    Yr 3 & 4 ONLY

    LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Robotics

    This class is exclusively for kids in year 3 and 4 at Central Coast Grammar School (CCGS).  

    This group would be given a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of robot design, program, and control of a functional robot. They will learn how to build the robot, then program them to complete various tasks using LEGO bricks, motors and sensors and compete with other groups in battles.

    Both introductory level and intermediate levels will be catered for.

    The room/venue is H2, which is one of the classrooms opposite the library. Kids will be collected from 3pm from the Yr3/4 playground, a roll will be marked and then the kids will be escorted to the room. Parents will need to pick up their child from the room – H2 at the end of the session. Supervision will be available until 4:30pm only.

    Classes start runs for 8 weeks from the 2nd week of Term – Thursday the 9th of May to the 27th of June.

    1 full day of ROBOTICS: Mindstorms EV3 Robotics

    CODE . CREATE . EXPERIMENT 

    It’s An amazing 1-day workshop for kids exploring the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot kit. It’s ideal for kids in Year 3 & Up

    The day is going to involve an open-ended task that comprises a choice of 1 or 2 of the following projects:

    ** A Spinning Music Box
    ** SumoBots Battle

    The price is $100 for the day, which includes hot or cold food option bought directly from the cafe and access to the Impact play centre during breaks.

    Trial classes are held during the first and second week of the term. Spots are very limited as we keep our class sizes small.

    The cost is $20. This will be deducted from your term fees if you sign up to our classes that same term.

    K-2 trial class is on Monday May 6th and 13th at Impact Centre – 19 Chetwynd rd, Erina.

    All equipment needed is provided. Simply come with a snack and drink bottle.

    Kids will get the opportunity to build and code a fully functional robot using the WeDo 2.0 Robot Kit. They would use an app to program their robot model using a visual coding language suitable for young ones. Limited reading ability required.

  • ‘EXPLORER LEGO WeDo 2.0 ROBOTICS PARTY’

    EXPLORER LEGO WeDo 2.0 ROBOTICS PARTY PACKAGE (1.5 Hours)

    $250 for up to 10 children (including the celebrant). We can cater for up to 15 kids at extra costs (see below)
    Kids + Lego Robots = Excitement!
    This party package is for children 6 – 10 years old.  Kids 9+ can consider the other party option – “Stormy Minds Party” using the EV3 robots. We come to you and we will provide all the equipment your guests need. Our location can also be used at an extra cost.
    The package includes a robotics challenge themed event and a Robot Science Edutainer to host the party entertainment.  The children get to build and program a LEGO WeDo 2.0 robot and take part in Animal Adventures, Racing Cars, or  a Tug-o-War.
    Amazing, but true! With the guidance of our instructor and the LEGO Education award-winning robotics kits and drag-and-drop software, all kids 6+ years old can write programs with it after about half an hour. So sit back and let the kids explore the world of STE[A]M and have a blast at our Explorer WeDo party!
    Challenges include: Animal Adventures, Racing or Tug-o-War
    OPTIONAL EXTRAS

    Sunday surcharge of $40 is applicable.

    All Robot Science staff have a valid Working With Children Clearance (WWCC) and we also have a $10M liability insurance.
    WHAT OUR PARTY ENTAILS:
    Our Robot Science Edutainer and the kids would spend the first 30 minutes building the LEGO robot model by following on-screen instructions. Then we will teach your guests how simple programming the robot can be, and how to write simple programs using LEGO software. The next 30 minutes would have them playing with the robots and involved in the set challenge and having a blast!

    LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Robotics

    This class is ideal of intermediate learners or previous students of Robot Science. In this class, students will learn build on prior knowledge of the fundamentals of robot design, program, and control of a functional robot. Students will also learn the sequence of communication between the robot, and the programmer by collecting and analyzing data using the robot’s sensors. They will be introduced to the world of robots as they build and program robots using LEGO® bricks, motors and sensors. Throughout this program, students will use science and maths concepts as well as engineering principles to problem solve, plan and test series of coded instructions to achieve a specific goal. They will learn to code, create and experiment with different aspects of the robots. Throughout the course, students will learn to utilize and program motors and sensors. 

    This is class is SOLD OUT for Term 3, 2018.

  • ‘SCHOOL INCURSIONS’ Primary School

    K to Year 10

    Robot Science programs (school workshops, incursions and after-school) are project based and student centered. All the topics and student learning outcomes align to the ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) Digital Technology and Science curriculum.

    We utilise the Lego Robot kits – Lego WeDo2.0 for Kindy to Year 3 and the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot kits for Year 4 and up. These are hands-on technological solution that develops science practices in the classroom through a robot-based learning system. The standards-based projects and the solutions, engages and motivates students to solve real-world science problems by working with engineering, technology and coding. The LEGO Robotics Education program used, strengthens students’ understanding and develops competencies across key science topics including physical sciences, life sciences, earth and space sciences and engineering.

    With all our programs, we provide all the technological resources needed such as the iPads and Robot kits.

    With our school workshops, we offer 2 workshops that are ideally run in a series with introductory level projects and intermediate level projects. The continuum Workshops 1-2 allows kids to continually participate in our program with appropriately increasing complexity in the material. Ideally, kids would attend the first program, which is the introductory program before attending the subsequent workshop. However, this can be adjusted if necessary. Workshops are run as a half day program. There is the option to run 2 half day programs consecutively for 2 different classes/years. It costs $35 per child for the half day.     With our school incursions, we offer an ongoing weekly service for the term, whereby we provide our services within the school hours for an hour or for the duration of your typical class time. This is usually a 10 week program, which can be adjusted to 9 or 11 weeks as needed. Each week would include the introduction and discussion of a science or technology themed topic that would involve coding, creating and experimenting with of our robots. The cost is $22 per child and a minimum of 1 hour OR the equivalent of one class period.

    With our after school programs, we run it by the term. It is similar to the school incursions. It is usually a 10 week program, which can be adjusted to 9 or 11 weeks as needed. Each week would include the introduction and discussion of a science or technology themed topic that would involve coding, creating and experimenting with of our robots. This cost $20 per child for 1 hour. All we would require is an allocated space with access to a smart board if possible. A minimum number of 10 kids is required to proceed.

    Qualified Robot Science staff will come to your school, and fit into the school day. We have a qualified teacher with WWCC. We provide all the technological resources – robot kits, iPad and software. We allocate one robot kit and an iPad to a pair of students. This ratio of kids to the robot resources ensures that every child is hands-on and engaged, but still allows for teamwork and collaboration. We can also provide relevant and age appropriate worksheets.

    During the program, the kids optimise their learning of Robotics with an underlying science and technology theme with every child coding, creating and experimenting with a minimum of 6 programs. As an indication of achievement, we provide every participant with a Robot Science Robot Programmer Certificate. Robot Science would also provide a student achievement chart that can be used for assessment. We also provide 10M public liability insurance with certificate of currency.

    School Workshops (Intermittent)

    An awesome and engaging Robotics class for Pre-school kids aged 3–5 years that promotes learning of technical skills in a playful way. We use the Blue-Bot and/or Bee-Bot robot kits, which are exciting robots designed specifically for young children. They are colorful, easy-to-operate, and entertaining little robots that are ideal for teaching numeracy, sequencing, estimation and problem-solving. We integrate an underlying science theme linked to topic choices that include the solar system, Australian Currency, alphabets and numbers, as well as a map of Australia.

     

    Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes that we attain:
    4.1 Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity.
